Charles City Timber and Mat, LLC is a family run pine and hardwood sawmill located in Providence Forge, VA, about halfway between Richmond and Williamsburg. Our mother company, Charles City Forest Products, Inc., has been in the hardwood railroad tie business for over 40 years.

Although we are still in the railroad tie business, we built a new sawmill on adjacent property and began operation under the name, Charles City Timber and Mat, LLC. Construction began on the new mill in the summer of 2005. From the start, we knew we wanted to build something unique. We wanted to specialize in a process beyond the capabilities of other sawmills; that process being the milling of long length timbers and lumber. So, we installed a 6-head block carriage capable of manufacturing a log up to 45 feet in length.

Construction was complete in July 2006 and we began production in August. Our focus, thus far, has been on the production of bridge and crane mats and oversized hardwood and pine timbers. Yet, with the ability to cut up to 45 foot, we are very flexible and no job is too big or too small. So, whether you are a big construction company that needs 100 crane mats to build a new highway bridge, a contractor that needs 20 pieces of 12"x 12"x 30' white oak timbers for a post and beam home, a wood treating plant that needs 1000 8"x 8", #2 and btr, pine timbers ranging from 8' to 45' or just an individual landowner that needs two 20' oak timbers for a barn or a pole shed, we can make it happen and look forward to working with you.
