Charles City Timber & Mat Specialty Timbers: Hardwood & Pine
Hardwood Timbers
Our sawmill is designed to cut specialty hardwood timbers. Some of the timbers we cut, especially the mixed hardwood species (i.e. Beech, hickory, maple, and gum), are used in bridge and crane mat construction. Some of our white oak and red oak timbers are also used in mat assembly and oak timbers are additionally used in timber frame and post and beam home construction. We have also manufactured railroad switch ties and bridge timbers. Again, we can cut timbers up to 45 foot in length in whatever size you may need.
Pine Timbers
We have access to an abundance of old growth southern yellow pine in our area. We specialize in pine timbers, from 8"x 8" on up to any size, and lengths up to 45 foot. We are certified by the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau to grade stamp timbers, so we can supply you with any grade you need. These timbers are ideal for marine construction (i.e. Docks, piers, wooden bulkheads, and residential construction on the ocean). Although we currently do not have the ability to dry and treat the timbers, we have excellent working relationships with local sawmills and treatment plants that assist us in these processes.
